African Penguin, or Spheniscus demersus

I took this photo of a swimming African Penguin at Boulders beach in Simon's Town on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa. This is one of a few places where these birds still have breeding colonies in their natural habitat. It is certainly worth a visit if you happen to be near Cape Town.
This penguin is sometimes confused with the Magellanic Penguin. However, the latter is very scarce in Southern Africa.
Photographing your subject while it is actually doing something is highly recommended. It is infinitely more interesting than photographs of subjects posing for the camera...
Cape Town is one of the best places in the world to visit for a vacation, and regularly gets top ten reviews in travel magazines and other publications. The reasons include the rich history, unique and stunning scenery and great culture. However, do not expect an African safari experience as this is a well-developed city.
