Buffalo Cow, or Syncerus caffer

Buffalo Cow

Shortly after arriving in the Chobe National Park, we saw this Buffalo Cow with a herd of at least five hundred friends. When photographing these dark animals you should try to underexpose with at least one stop to avoid a grey washed out look.

Buffalo, while looking similar to cattle, are very dangerous animals. Just ask any trophy hunter... The last thing you want to do is wound one of these animals.

Our visit to Chobe National Park in June 2005 was a magical experience, as visits to this paradise tend to be. It is very high on my list of recommended places to visit on an Africa Safari. I just do hope that the Department of Wildlife and National Parks start doing something about the bursting Elephant population, as the game density of other animals and the general quality of the bush is suffering as a result of high Elephant numbers.

If you also want opportunities to take pictures like this one, why don't you visit my Africa Safaris section...
