Cape Eagle Owl, or Bubo capensis

This photo of a captive Cape Eagle Owl was taken at Houtbay World of Birds in South Africa. This owl is often confused with the rare red-brown form of Spotted Eagle Owl. One way of distinguishing between the two, is noting that this owl has orange, and not yellow, eyes.
Photographing captive animals allows the photographer to get shots that is very difficult to take in the wild. It might take years to encounter an owl like this in the wild in good light. My advice, go and get those captive animals, they are almost as beautiful as the free ones.
Houtbay is a lovey little harbour town on the Cape Peninsula near Cape Town and offers the visitor much to do and see. Houtbay World of Birds offers visitors a chance to see hundreds of African bird species that might not have been seen in the wild. It is certainly worth a visit while you are in the Cape Town region.
