Elephant, or Loxodonta africana

I photographed this Elephant one late afternoon near a waterhole with about forty of its relatives. When you are near Savuti in the Chobe National Park of Botswana you can expect to see quite a number of the planet's largest land-based mammals. They are particularly keen on the waterhole closest to the camp.
Our visit to Chobe National Park in June 2005 was a magical experience, as visits to this paradise tend to be. It is very high on my list of recommended places to visit on an Africa Safari. This park is best visited on a self-drive safari as you then have the freedom to roam where you want to. This can be particularly handy for the photographer who needs good light for photography and would want to spend time observing animals.
If you also want opportunities to take pictures like this one, why don't you visit my
