Giraffe, or Giraffa camelopardalus

Giraffe pair

I took this photo of a pair of Giraffe not long before sunset on the Chobe river floodplain in Chobe National Park, Botswana. Two Egyptian Geese are making a nice fly by in the background.

These interesting animals are very well known for their long necks and uncomfortable drinking style. They also have an ability to eat leaves from thorny trees without getting in any of the thorns. There are eight different races. These are of the Southern race.

Chobe National Park is one of my favourite destinations in Africa. If you have been there previously you will smile while reading this. The experience stays with you forever. I can recommend a visit to this park (and the whole of northern Botswana) as high as any of Africa's other attractions. You WILL enjoy taking pictures there. Period.

If you also want opportunities to take pictures like this one, why don't you visit my Africa Safaris section...
