Three Ground Squirrels, or
Family Sciuridae
One of my favourite photos of our June 2005 trip to Northern Botswana. They are Ground Squirrels! We were on our way from the Ihaha campsite in the Chobe National Park to Kasane when we saw these three sitting together on a branch fairly close to the road. I was lucky that the light was fair and they had this striking pose about them.
Our visit to Chobe National Park in June 2005 was a magical experience, as visits to this paradise tend to be. It is very high on my list of recommended places to visit on an Africa Safari. I just do hope that the Department of Wildlife and National Parks start doing something about the bursting Elephant population, as the game density of other animals and the general quality of the bush is suffering as a result of high Elephant numbers.
