Impala Ram, or
Aepyceros melampus
I took this portrait photo of an Impala Ram lying down on our morning game drive one morning in the Chobe National Park. They are often referred to as the McDonald''s of the African bush as they are as readily available to African predators as McDonalds branches to humans. Also, because they have black rump marks resembling the M of McDonald's.
One often encounters these antelope in Southern African reserves. This does not mean that sitting with them and waiting for something to happen should not be considered. Patience delivers good photographs...
Our visit to Chobe National Park in June 2005 was a magical experience, as visits to this paradise tend to be. It is very high on my list of recommended places to visit on an Africa Safari. I just do hope that the Department of Wildlife and National Parks start doing something about the bursting Elephant population, as the game density of other animals and the general quality of the bush is suffering as a result of high Elephant numbers.
