Impala, or Aepyceros melampus

Impala ewe



I took this photo of an Impala ewe in the small Mahanga Game Reserve, Namibia. They are often referred to as the McDonald''s of the African bush as they are as readily available to African predators as McDonalds branches to humans. Also, because they have black rump marks resembling the M of McDonald's.

Oh, and no, she is not licking her lips for McDonald's ;-)

Mahanga Game Reserve is a small reserve which is well-known for its high concentrations of Sable and Roan antelope. It has the biggest wild populations of these animals in the world.

I will not recommend a long visit to this reserve as you can see almost all it has to offer in one day. It is still worth the visit, especially if you are looking for Sable or Roan antelope.
