Lioness Picture 1

Lioness

I took this Lioness Picture at the Cubitje Quap waterhole of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The lionesses were most probably out hunting during the night (note the small wounds on her head). We saw their cubs first and could easily have driven off after photographing the cubs. But later on the lionesses joined the cubs and we had some great opportunities in decent light. As usual, patience paid dividends...

I visited the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in March 2006 with my photography mentor, Johan Joubert APSSA. We had a really good time and I still believe this is one of the top four wildlife photography hotspots in Southern Africa. I just wish that someone will fix the broken waterpumps so that the wildlife can have sufficient water. The roads are pretty bad as well, but it is still well worth a visit.

If you also want opportunities to take pictures like this one, why don't you visit my Africa Safaris section...
