Lioness, or Panthera Leo

Lioness



I took this photo of a Lioness on a very cloudy and dark day in the Chobe National Park, Botswana. It is a pretty photo, but it would have been magical in different light. The whole reason why wildlife photographers dislike cloudy weather.

The female does not grow a mane. It can weigh up to 150kg, and is therefore quite a bit smaller than the male.

Chobe National Park is one of my favourite destinations in Africa. If you have been there previously you will smile while reading this. The experience stays with you forever. I can recommend a visit to this park (and northern Botswana) as high as any of Africa's other attractions. You WILL enjoy taking pictures there. Period.
