Nile Crocodile, or
Crocodylus niloticus

Captive baby Nile Crocodile

I took this photograph of a captive baby Nile Crocodile at Le Bonheur Crocodile Farm near Paarl in South Africa. This cute small creature already has a set of teeth that will keep the bravest people cautious. Its older brothers can weigh up to 600 kgs.

These young ones are vulnerable in the wild. It is a favourite snack of many large birds, meaning only a few will become adults.

Le Bonheur is a wine estate that has a crocodile farm as a further visitor attraction. It is situated in the Paarl valley, and within easy driving distance from Cape Town. The crocodile farm is worth a visit, especially if you are not used to seeing these magnificent creatures. However, plan a very short visit, as it does not offer too much excitement.

If you also want opportunities to take pictures like this one, why don't you visit my Africa Safaris section...
