Southern Double-collared Sunbird, or Cinnyris chalybeus

This Southern Double-collared Sunbird picture was taken at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens of South Africa. It feeds off the nectar of mostly Ericas. It is a stunning sunbird and looks much like the Greater Double-collared Sunbird which is slightly larger and has more red on its chest.
Kirstenbosch is one of the favourite attractions for tourists to Cape Town and has truly spectacular plant and bird life. In summer the garden hosts concerts on Sunday evenings, perfect for a picnic with someone special after using the quality afternoon light for some impressive flower and bird photography!
Another bird to be on the look out for is the Cape Sugarbird with its impressive, long tail. It has been a favoured subject of photographers for many years.
Kirstenbosch features a part of the original Van Riebeeck fence erected by Jan van Riebeeck in the 1650s to keep Khoisan thieves out of the Dutch colony later called Cape Town.
