I took this Sunset Landscape Picture of the silhouette of an Acacia tree at a waterhole near the Savuti camp of Botswana's Chobe National Park. It is one of my favourite landscape pictures. We were watching about thirty elephants at the waterhole in near perfect light when it dawned on me to look around at the sun. I saw this scene and quickly got ready to take the picture.
Savuti is situated in the southern region of the Chobe National Park. My favourite area of this park is the Chobe floodplain in the north of the park. The south is also well worth a visit though, and in Botswana your chances of good sightings are high no matter where you go (inside the big parks).
One thing though... I am of the opinion that there are way too many elephants in the park, and this reduces your chances of good predator sightings significantly. We only encountered lions once during our visit in 2005. Also, it is Africa in its wildest form — no feul or convenience stores... anywhere! So a visit is either going to be expensive (at a lodge), or you will need to rough it a little.
If you would like opportunities to take pictures like this one, scratch around in my Africa Safaris section and start planning a trip! It won't happen unless you plan for it.
You will see that some of the pages on the website are looking new and different. I am in the process of redoing and rewriting the whole website to improve it. I am also introducing some exciting new things, including an online learning experience to help you improve your nature photography significantly.
Please bear with me during these changes. It should be done by the end of August 2010 (I have over 100 pages on the site).
Also, make sure you subscribe in the left column of the website to stay up to date on the new pages and offerings as they are released.
